A YOUNG woman from Tarland is organising a fundraising dance at Glassel Hall to raise money for a local cancer charity.
Kerri Thomson, 19, decided to raise funds for Friends of ANCHOR, after her grandmother Nan Anderson, also of Tarland, was diagnosed with ovarian cancer earlier this year.

The event takes place on Saturday, October 18 and promises to be a real family affair with music for the evening being provided by Kerri's father Graham Thomson and his band Never Over.

Kerri said: "I decided to organise a charity event to benefit Friends of ANCHOR after my Gran recently spent time in the ANCHOR unit receiving treatment. I really feel the charity is making a big difference and doing a great job of supporting the unit and its patients. I believe everyone knows someone who has been affected by cancer, like my Gran, so I would really like to encourage people to come along, enjoy the music and help raise funds for a very worthy cause."

Fundraising manager Fiona JD Pearson said: "We would like to thank Kerri so much for all her hard work and effort she and her family have put in to ensure this dance is a great success.

"We really are most grateful to everyone involved and for all their support of our charity. Every penny raised at events like this one helps us to continue to expand our support of the unit. It allows us to purchase vital non-NHS funded equipment such as the latest high definition video equipment used in laparoscopic 'keyhole' surgery, which will greatly benefit patients being operated on with inter-abdominal malignancies. It also helps us to provide additional care, comfort and support for our patients and fund ground breaking research projects at the University of Aberdeen, Institute of Medical Science."

Doors will open at Glassel Hall at 8pm.

Tickets are £8.00 and can be purchased prior to the event from Kerri by calling (013398) 81551.
