Deeside RFC 34 West Dyce 5

DEESIDE played their second home game of the season and ran out convincing winners against a large West Dyce team.
The game kicked off in drizzly conditions making the ball wet and slippery, but this did not upset a confident Deeside XV who started the game very positively, moving the ball through the backs to good effect.

It was not long until a passage of st
rong rucking and ball retention by the forwards created a good opportunity for Fraser to pass the ball out to Pritchard who ran powerfully across the West Dyce gain line, before offloading to Fuchs for Deeside to register their first try of the game.

This was quickly followed by another good passing movement across the backs to Middleton who scored a try under the posts, taking the score quickly to 16 points to nil in Deeside's favour.

Deeside continued their dominance in the breakdown and contact areas and consistently won the scrums and line outs.

Chief instigator of this excellent play was debutant Coppard playing at flanker.

It was his good ground work and strong work rate that created a number of forward moves that led to a scrum inside the West Dyce 22.

Deeside won good ball from the scrum and Allsop picked and went at pace to charge over for his first try of the afternoon.

Another well worked position by Deeside later in the first half led to another Allsop pick and go and he obliged by scoring his second try of the game.

By now Deeside had gained the bonus point and started to play some fine rugby, passing the ball well through the backs allowing McKnight and Milne to create some great opportunities.

It was from one of those opportunities that Fuchs ran over for his second try of the game which effectively killed the game off.

Scott who had kicked well all afternoon took the half time score to 34 points with no reply with Deeside in strong control of the game.

The second half did not live up to the excellent first half performance as Deeside started to make a number of changes which created a rather disjointed second half performance. Ill discipline and the spoiling tactics of West Dyce led to a late try for the visitors.

Coppard was named man of the match after showing a high level of competency at both flanker and hooker.
